Why is photography so expensive?

Just like every business we are priced to profit. We have calculated our cost of doing business. This includes but is not limited to the many thousands of dollars that are spent on props, drops, gowns, other clothing items, custom items, electronic equipment as well as our camera equipment, monthly subscriptions, education and taxes.

What is more valuable a digital or a print?

A few clients have asked and assumes that the cost/value of a print is more than a digital. A digital is much more valuable because it is something that can be reproduced over and over again vs a digital print which cannot be.

Is it that bad to edit someone else work?

Most contracts including ours has this condition in it. There is to be no editing of my work. Why? The reason why is because when someone sees the image I took with your filter or editing over it, it now doesn’t reflect my work.

Can’t I just go to someone cheap? Use my phone?

  • You could do both. The real question with the options above are how crisp and clear will your images be? How large can you print them?

*It really depends on how experienced the photographer is and if their equipment is being used to it’s capabilities. For cell phone pictures the size of a print will probably be small in size unlike a professional camera like mine that can print poster/banner sizes.

  • Have they had newborn safety training or practices safe poses {for newborn sessions}? Have they worked with kids? {would the cheap photographer make it an easy and fun experience or a difficult session}?

*I have herd of instances of serious harm towards newborns and children due to mishandling and prop/equipment failure. As a mom of 4 with lots of experience I do play sessions with the kids. I try my best to be the aunty and fun person vs the “stranger” photographer.

  • Are those images going to be edited to flatter you? Will those images be professionally edited?

*I personally hand edit all of my images. I make sure that I edit images to the closest I can to perfection without the images looking fake or overly smooth. I have been known to remove double chins, thin out bodies, correct scars, remove pimples, enlarge and lift breasts and so on. The editing I do is by client request. I listen and edit to their satisfaction.

Have you considered what images would be used at your loved ones or your celebration of life?

I know it is not something we want to think or talk about. For me I want to insure that my children have a photograph where I look the best I can. I want them to have something respectable that they can hang in their home if they want or when people come to pay their respect I want images on the memorial board to look beautiful. I want people to remember me in a youthful and flattering way.
